BTEC Extended Diploma in Performing Arts (Level 3) at Burton and South Derbyshire College
The BTEC Extended Diploma Performing Arts is equivalent to three A Levels and is a preferred route to Higher Education, Universities and performing arts training colleges. Balancing vocational and academic learning, the course introduces and trains students through a range of specialist pathways including acting, devising, musical theatre, movement for actors directing physical theatre and the performing arts in context. Modules Theatre for Children (year 1) and Theatre in Education (year 2) provide the opportunity to experience touring theatre and the performing arts business furthers an understanding of the Industry in liaising with local and national businesses connected to the curriculum area. Performances are a key element of the BTEC Extended Diploma Performing Arts programme with the majority of our showcases aired at the Brewhouse Arts Centre; previous shows have included ‘We Will Rock You’ and Wertenbaker’s ‘Our Country’s Good’ have been produced along with ‘The Rocky Horror Picture Show’ during the academic year 2009/2010.
• Minimum of 5 GCSE’s at grade C or better (of which one subject may be specified at grade C) including either English Language or Maths at GCSE Grade C or above (or equivalent)*; or • Pass at NVQ Level 2 and either English Language or Maths at GCSE Grade C or above (or equivalent); or • Pass at BTEC Diploma and either English Language or Maths at GCSE Grade C or above (or equivalent). The College has the discretion to determine if 4 or 5 GCSE’s will be the entry standards for a Qualification. Applicants for Performing Arts qualifications must successfully undertake an audition and an individual interview.
