English Language and Literature at University Academy Warrington

Course description

At AS, you will study written and spoken language and literary texts such as The Lovely Bones, Jane Eyre and A Streetcar Named Desire. The AS course is 100% examination, and you will be tested on your ability to write creatively and analyse spoken and written language.

At A2, you will complete coursework as well as an examination. The A2 course focuses on developing your talents as a writer of non-fiction, as well as analysis of other writers' work.

Entry requirements

You must have at least a grade C in both GCSE English Language and English Literature. You must enjoy writing your own work, and be interested in creating both fiction and non-fiction. You should be a competent and enthusiastic reader, and prepared to learn a range of linguistic terminology. You will be happy to develop the skills to express your ideas clearly and logically through discussion, essays and presentations to the class.
