Business Studies AS/A2 Level at The Bishops' Blue Coat CofE High School
This course investigates a wide variety of business themes and is structured in a logical way to allow students to build on their previous learning to gain a well rounded appreciation of the business world. The course covers a wide variety of business themes including marketing, staffing, finance, accounts, leadership, decision making and business strategy.
External influences such as the economy (including an analysis of the impact of inflation and interest rates), competition and stakeholders are also investigated. The course considers all business sizes and scales from small sole traders to large multinational PLCs.

2 Managers, leadership and decision making
3 Decision making to improve marketing performance
4 Decision making to improve operational performance
5 Decision making to improve financial performance
6 Decision making to improve human resource performance
7 Analysing the strategic position of a business
8 Choosing strategic direction
9 Strategic methods: how to pursue strategies
10. Managing strategic change
It is not essential to have studied business before. A good level of written communication is essential and the course contains finance work, so confidence with mathematics is also required. A minimum of C in English and Maths is required at GCSE. More importantly, a willingness to take an interest in the subject is essential.
A2 Three written papers totalling 6 hours
This course introduces students to a broad range of themes which will be useful for studying Business, Finance, Economics, Marketing, Human Resources and other related subjects.
Furthermore, the course provides opportunities for students to enter a wide range of careers, and a knowledge of how a business works is useful for progression in whichever career path a student chooses.
