Media Studies at The Vale Academy

Course description

WHAT WILL I LEARN ON THIS COURSE?
This course offers you the opportunity to combine a theoretical understanding of the mass media in society and methods for analysing media texts, such as: television programmes, films, games and the press, with the development of practical skills for media production. The balance of theory and practical work means that you will learn about how media industries operate, research and investigate issues and debates about the role of the media in society, analyse texts from a variety of media, and produce texts of your own.

WHAT KIND OF PERSON STUDIES THIS COURSE?
Someone who enjoys looking at media and someone who loves getting their teeth into digital technology: blogs, prezi, flikr, gaming, music videos, filming, photography, magazines, television and cinema will love this course. This course is for anyone who enjoys studying how media texts are created and what effects they may have on the audience. Someone who has a lively, en-quiring mind and enjoys sharing ideas and views with others will go far in the media world.

Media is for people who are willing to research and to work both in a team and independently. Some-one who enjoys practical elements related to design and ICT but also someone who enjoys chal-lenging stereotypes and writing analytically will do very well at this A Level.
