Design & Technology: Fashion and Textiles A Level at The Holy Trinity Church of England Secondary School

Course description

In this course you can expect to develop your creative abilities by advancing your practical skills, designing skills and theoretical knowledge. 

Course content

You will investigate historical, social, cultural, environmental and economic influences on design and technology, whilst enjoying opportunities to put your learning in to practice by producing products of your choice whilst working the material area of textiles.

Entry requirements

GCSE Grade C in Textiles technology, Resistant Materials, Graphic products, Art and Design or Product Design. 

Assessment

 All of the Fashion and Textiles specifications are currently being finalised by QCA. Our current preferences are either:

Exam board AQA: 7562: Core principles and techniques (exam 25%), Specialist principles and techniques (exam 25%), Design and Make Task (coursework 50%)

Exam board OCR: H405 – Principles of Product Design (exam 25%), Unseen challenge (design exam 25%), Iterative Design Project (coursework 50%)

Both of the courses being considered are 50% Exam and 50% Coursework.

World of Work:

This is course will give you the confidence to succeed in a number of careers, especially those in the creative or manufacturing industries. To enter this field you will generally need further on the job training or further study.

The Fashion & Textiles industry is worth £26 billion to the UK economy and this has grown over the past 5 years from £22 billion; there are extensive employment opportunities available throughout the UK and overseas.
