Government and Politics at Adams' Grammar School

Course description

No previous knowledge is expected but an interest in, and enthusiasm for, the subject is issential.  Much of the course is discussion based sp students must be prepared to share their ideas and contribute to group work.  Essay writing is also very much part of the assessment process.

Course content

The AS course focuses on UK politics: political parties, pressure groups, electoral systems and voting behaviour. Also the institutions of government - Parliament, Prime Minister, civil service etc.

At A2 students llok at the same areas of study but in relation to the USA.

Entry requirements

Five GCSEs grade B or above.  No other specific entry requirments for this course.

Assessment

The examination board is AQA. Syllabus: Government and Politics GCE Code: 1151/2151
Two modules are taken in summer of Lower Sixth year (each module entails two three-part questions.)
One module is taken in January of Upper Sixth, one module in June of Upper Sixth.

There is no coursework at A level.

Future opportunities

Politics is a useful qualification for many degree courses and professions and will equip students with a variety of transferable skills. It is a subject which will continue to be of relevance whatever you finally decide to do.
