English Language & Literature A-Level at Hereford Cathedral School

Course description

If you have enjoyed your English lessons throughout the school but want to take things on to the next level, then this is the course for you. If you want to become a highly skilled writer, capable of crafting your work for any given purpose or audience, then this is the course for you. If you enjoy reading a wide variety of texts, from great Realist drama to cutting edge journalism, then this is the course for you.

Course content

The course will give you the opportunity to read, analyse and investigate a range of texts and media from the Gothic genre, as well as exposing you to an enormous variety of non-fiction writing, from journalism to blogs via email, text, speeches and letters. Considerable emphasis is placed on your own creative writing, both at AS and A2 level.

Entry requirements

Ideally a minimum of a B grade in English at GCSE but consideration will be given to any student who is willing to work hard and who is keen to succeed.

Future opportunities

Any subject that requires the effective communication of ideas and a real awareness of how the choices you make when you write, can affect meaning.
