AS Level : ICT at English Martyrs Catholic School

Course description

This engaging programme is aimed at students who wish to enter into a career at ICT and / or Computing.

The units studied offer a mixed, broad, flavour of aspects relating to both areas.  Units include Computer Systems, Software Design and Development, e-Commerce and Animation.

Students will study 4 units in year 12.  5 hours a week classroom time is allocated with 2 members of staff delivering the units.


The course is equivalent to 1 GCSE A-Level and must be studied over the 2 years

Entry requirements

BTEC Level 2 in Information Communication Technology - Merit or above

GCSE English and Maths - Grade C or above


6 units of Coursework all internally assessed.  Eash unit is weighted equally.  All units must be passed in order to achieve the qualification.

Future opportunities

You could take this course to complement other advanced level courses or to prepare for the A2 part of an Advanced GCE in Information and Communication Technology, which could lead onto higher education in areas of Information and Communication Technology or more general higher education courses as the course offers skills that are useful in lots of subjects. With further training you could go into a job directly related to Information and Communication Technology such as a Computer Programmer, ICT Technician or Website Developer. You could also go straight into a job as the AS GCE is a recognised qualification that will help you develop the skills, understanding and knowledge for entering today's workforce across many industries who depend on computers and technology more generally.
