Course description

What will I be studying? This course involves designing and making high quality products. You will use traditional skills and workshop tools aswell as computer controlled CNC machines, laser cutters and routers to create products of your choosing. You will work with a range of different materials, such as wood, metal, plastics or a combination of all three How will I be assessed? The folder work and practical work on your 2 coursework projects account for 60% of your overall mark. You will sit 2 written exams worth a total of 40% of the overall mark. What can I achieve? You will achieve a GCSE (Grade A* - G) based on the outcome of your coursework and exams. The projects you design and make are yours to keep at the end of the course. What else do I need to know? This is a chance for budding designers to design and make their own unique products. If you have the imagination, the sky is the limit to what you can create. eg.guitar cases, gun cases etc, games console units, gaming aids, jewellery/make up boxes and stands, bike stands & racks, TV & hi-fi units, DVD / CD racks, tool boxes, tool stations etc, chairs, tables & furniture, decorative items, clocks etc.
