Creative Digital Media Production (Games Design) BTEC Level 3 at Shipley College
Are you creative and do you love games and gaming?
Develop your skills and experience in a variety of industry based software, which can be applied not only to the Games and Digital Media industries, but also to Architecture and Marketing.
Some of the things you learn include 2D & 3D modelling and animation as well as using specialist software including Adobe Flash & Adobe Photoshop.
You study games consoles - PS4, Xbox One & Wii.
You will work to a professional brief from a client/local employer to promote their product as well as creating social media networking opportunities.

- 4 GCSEs at grade A*-C (9-4), including English and maths. If you don’t have grade C (5-4) in both subjects, the minimum for the other is grade D (3)
- a full Level 2 at PP grade or above with maths and English grades equivalent to those stated above. *
- At interview please tell us about any experience you have in art or graphics to demonstrate your creative flair. It is also an advantage if you have experience/knowledge of using Adobe Photoshop, 3D Design or Adobe Flash animation.
* Students with grade D (3) in either English or maths will be expected to re-take that subject in Year 1.
All the work on this course is portfolio based with digital production work (e.g. creating 3D models or/environments, 2D interactive games and digital graphic for textures/environments). You may also need to take GCSE or functional skills English and maths depending on your grade profile. These will require learners to take end of year externally set tests.
Most students will not have to pay tuition fees. You will need a small amount of money for recommend textbooks and study materials – help can sometimes be provided with these costs. You will also need stationery, files a memory stick (minimum 2GB) or a portable hard drive, an A3 sketchbook and Presentation Portfolio. You may also need to contribute to the cost of educational trips to industry shows and museums.
After successfully completing the course, you may move in to Higher Education in games design, production or programming for games. The skills you learn open up opportunities for careers in games and multimedia industries including architectural design and 3D walkthroughs or starting your own media related business.
In addition to time in college you will need to spend some time on homework and assignments that are given to you by the tutor.
