Art (Fine Art) A level at The Ecclesbourne School

Course description

If you are a creative and motivated student, with a genuine interest in the subject regardless of career choices, then Fine Art A Level is for you. The course builds on the skills you have developed at GCSE and allows more ambitious and personal work to be tackled. In the past, students have taken the subject because they have a talent for it, wish to study Art at degree level or because they feel it supplements their other A Level choices well.

At AS, the first unit consists of a “portfolio” which will contain a variety of work, allowing you to create your own response to an individually devised theme. The remaining 50% of the course is known as the Externally Set Task. You will complete a set of work in response to a choice of 5 questions or starting points set by AQA. You will have a 5 hour controlled test which focuses on the development of ideas and use of materials.
A2 begins with gallery visits and the Personal Investigation, which consists of a practical work supported by a 1000-3000 word journal. The final stage of the course is the Externally Set Task for which you will complete a set of work in response to a choice of 8 questions set by AQA. The unit concludes with a 15 hour controlled test where you produce your final work.
