Mathematics A level at Leyton Sixth Form College

Course description

Mathematics is one of the great creations of human intelligence. It is the language of science, technology and engineering. It is essential for architecture and design as well as economics and medicine; even art relies on mathematics to some extent. If you enjoy mathematics and have a creative streak you should certainly consider studying the subject at a higher level.

Course content

AS Level

You will take Core Maths 1, Core Maths 2 and Statistics 1.

  • Core Maths Module 1: includes topics such as algebra, geometry, exponentials, differentiation and integration
  • Core Maths Module 2: includes functions, trigonometry, exponentials and logarithms
  • Statistics Module 1: looks at topics such as representation and summary of data, probability, correlation and regression, discrete random variables and the normal distribution

A2 Level

  • Core Maths Module 3
  • Core Maths Module 4
  • Mechanics 1 or Statistics 2

Entry requirements

G Score of 36

A/7 – Maths (Grade B/6 students will be accepted only if they successfully pass an initial test at enrolment)

Mathematics AS/A2 Level is useful in a wide variety of fields of study in higher education. For example: science, medicine, engineering, business, computing, accounting, economics and psychology are just some of the areas where the subject is useful.
