Food and Beverage Service NVQ 2 Diploma at Northumberland College

Course description

The course will develop your skills as a food service operative and is suitable for learners who have completed level 1 or adults who want a career change.

Course content

The course consists of students working within the realistic working environment (RWE) of the Hospitality Department. Learners will work within the Wansbeck Restaurant, our 40 cover training restaurant, which is open to members of the public as well as staff and students. You will be expected to take part in coffee, lunch and evening dinner services.

Entry requirements

You must have basic skills in maths and english. You will generally be required to have gained a level 1 qualification although there are exceptions. Mature students with no formal qualifications are welcomed.


Your progress will be assessed by a range of methods including practical assessments/ observations and written assignments. You will be assessed regularly throughout the year whilst working as a team with other students within the restaurant and kitchen. The restaurant is open daily to the public for lunch and some evenings for dinner.

Future opportunities

After completing the course you could progress on to study a Level 3 course or you could work in the Hospitality and Catering industry.
