Fast Track Extended Diploma in Business in One Year at Newcastle-under-Lyme College

Course description

The Fast track Extended Diploma in Business is aimed at those that do not wish to continue with AS studies. It will have an intensive delivery over four days a week and will allow students to progress onto university, other professional qualifications, apprenticeships or full-time employment upon completion.

Business is a subject that covers a wide range of disciplines found within industries including Accounting, Human Resource Management, Marketing, Economics, Team work, Legal aspects, Events Management, Health and Safety and Retailing, it is an excellent subject to study which allows progression into a vast number of areas. Hard work and a determination to succeed will be needed as this is an intensive course.

Both students currently enrolled at the College and those enrolled elsewhere are eligible to apply for the course which starts in September 2017.

The BTEC Extended Diploma in Business is equivalent to three A Levels and provides learners with the comprehensive knowledge, understanding and skills to enter a wide variety of careers within the business and commercial sectors as well as the opportunity to progress to higher education. The course is about the practical development of business knowledge and skills where you will study four core units and 14 specialist units. The four core units in the extended diploma give learners an introduction to and understanding of the business environment, management of resources, marketing and communication; all fundamental to the success of business organisations. Units of study include the business environment, business resources, introduction to marketing and business communications. Specialist units cover a range of business skills including accounting, recruitment and legal issues.

Entry requirements

Potential students wanting to study the Fast track Extended Diploma in Business, can opt to move from an existing AS level programme, onto the course, and still progress onto higher education at the same time as students studying a two year programme.

Assessment

You are continuously assessed throughout the course. For each unit national standards are laid down, which you have to meet. Your tutors ensure that you are given opportunities to do this through projects, running events, assignments, case studies and problem-solving situations.

The Level 3 Extended Diploma in Business gives you the business skills and knowledge to pursue a career in one of many areas such as accountancy, financial services, sales and marketing, personnel, retailing, public administration, manufacturing and production. It also qualifies you to progress to higher education at Higher National Diploma/Certificate or Degree Level. (You will also achieve UCAS points on a scale from 120 – 420).
