Future opportunities

WHAT CAN I DO WITH HISTORY?

History is a valuable qualification. The training in logical analysis, relevant selection and presentation of convincing, well-supported arguments is appropriate and useful in many careers. In recent years A level Historians have entered the following careers: Archaeology, Archivist, Broadcasting, Economist, Publishing, Law and the Diplomatic Service. In recent years History has been chosen as an Advanced Level subject by some students going on to study Medicine.

Further information

WHAT DO I NEED TO START THE COURSE?

GCSE History is useful but not essential and, if achieved, at least a B grade is required. Students have been very successful at Advanced Level History without having any previous qualification in History. It is more important to have a keen interest and curiosity about History and a willingness to work hard and follow advice.

Students should be willing to read widely, write/add to their own notes, use information to produce analytical, well argued essays and to study a variety of sources both primary and secondary. Students are expected to show initiative and to take responsibility for furthering their studies in class and at home.
