Early Years Education & Care (Early Years Educator) Level 3 Diploma at West Herts College

Course description

Are you interested in working in early years education or thinking of progressing on to higher education? This is a well-regarded course for leaders in childcare wishing to gain their licence to practice within the sector.

Course content

The subject areas you study will be varied and relevant to the sector. In addition you will learn leadership and management skills, providing you with the tools you need to run your own nursery.

You will be assessed in a number of ways including external exams, written assignments and reviews at the professional placements you attend.

You will learn through theoretical study and practical experience, focusing on:

  • Child development
  • Leadership and management
  • Child health
  • Observation and assessment
  • Understanding children’s additional needs
  • Professional practice

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs (A*–C) including English language and maths, and a DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check. You will then be invited to a course introduction meeting.

Future opportunities

Upon successful completion you will be well placed to apply to university and progress to EYP status. Careers include teaching assistant, nursery practitioner, playgroup leader, crèche manager and social worker.
