Applied Law BTEC Level 3 Certificate at Guildford College

Course description

The BTEC in Applied Law is not usually available in other local schools or colleges and is attractive to students who prefer course work assessment rather than formal examinations.

This course provides a good introduction to the English legal system and a more detailed consideration of aspects of law such as negligence, criminal law, contract and consumer law. 

A specialist member of staff delivers the classes and makes use of a wide range of resources including the internet.

During the course students will be given the opportunity to develop transferable skills such as powers of analysis, logical thought and clear communication.

Course content

This course provides a good introduction to the English legal system and a more detailed consideration of aspects of law such as negligence, criminal law, contract and consumer law.

On completion of this course, you will have a Level 3 BTEC Certificate in Applied Law, which is equivalent to one AS Level. Once you have completed the Certificate you can move onto study the Subsidiary Diploma in the second year, which is equivalent to one A Level.

Modules include: dispute solving in the legal system, understanding law making and aspects of legal liability.

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs at grade C or above, including English Language (B grade preferred).

Assessment

Assessment is completely course work based, involving written work, research and individual and group presentations.

Future opportunities

On completion of the Level 3 BTEC Certificate you could move on to study the Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Applied Law (equivalent to one A Level).
