IT Cambridge TEC Level 3 Diploma at Barrow-in-Furness Sixth Form College
This qualification can lead to IT related employment or Higher Education in an IT related field when studied alongside other Advanced Level courses. IT is at the heart of everyday life, at home, work and in our leisure time from computer graphics and control systems to communications and problem-solving. You will study units focussing on communication and employability skills for IT, Information Systems and website production.
You will research the jobs that are available in the IT industry and document your findings, describing job roles and describe the attributes required of the people who might undertake those jobs. You will investigate Health and Safety in the workplace. Finally you will choose one job within the IT industry to research and describe in detail. You will use Word Processing, Desktop Publishing, Spreadsheets and Databases to manipulate data and present information in meaningful, relevant format. You will research the importance of “Information” for modern businesses. You will create a case study of how this information is used by two specific business areas. For example you might document how important the information regarding the stock level of the parts required to build a submarine is to BAE. You will learn how to design create a web site for a business that is secure and efficient and fit for purpose, using consistent styles to get people’s attention and communicate information in a meaningful way
This qualification is open to students who meet the general college entry requirements or those who have completed the Level 2 Cambridge Technical Extended Certificate IT qualification and wish to progress further with their studies. There are no examinations in this subject; it is assessed purely on coursework and to succeed on this course you will need to be a committed student who is prepared to work hard for all of the academic year.
