AS/A2  Level Course

Theme 1: Introduction to markets and market failure.

Theme 2: The UK economy – performance and policies.

Theme 3: Business behaviour and the labour market.

Theme 4: A global perspective.

 

A knowledge of Economics helps you to get a better understanding of what is going on in the world around you.

It is about how money is made, lost and misused.

It touches almost every aspect of everyday life.

On a larger scale it looks at the benefits to our society when the economy does well and the costs when it is not doing so well.

Internationally, economics is at the heart of issues such as globalisation, third world debt and the Euro.

Entry requirements

Since this is a new subject to students, a grade B in a Humanities subject and a grade C in GCSE Mathematics are essential requirements for matriculation.

Essay writing skills are a key feature of all aspects of the course.

Assessment

Three 2 hour written papers - 100 marks each.

Paper 9ECO/01: Microeconomics, questions drawn from themes 1 and 3. Multiple choice, data response and an extended open-response question.

Paper 9ECO/02: Macroeconomics, questions drawn from themes 2 and 4. Multiple choice, data response and an extended open-response question.

Paper 9ECO/03: Questions drawn from all themes. Data response and an extended open-response question.
