Business BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma at St Angela's Ursuline School
The course is the equivalent to two A Levels. 8 units of which 6 are mandatory and 3 are external. Students may study an additional A Levels to support progression to higher education courses in business areas or wider degrees. The additional qualification(s) studied allow learners either to give breadth to their study programme by choosing a contrasting subject, or to give it more focus by choosing a complementary subject.
The Business content is up to date and that it includes the knowledge, understanding, skills and attributes required in the business sector. The transferable skills are those such as communication, teamwork, research and analysis, which are valued in both higher education and the workplace.
4 C (5) grades
Assessment is specifically designed to fit the purpose and objective of the qualification. It includes a range of assessment types and styles. Each external assessment is linked to a specific unit. All of the units developed for external assessment allow learners to demonstrate breadth and depth of achievement. Each assessment is taken under specified conditions and a grade awarded. Learners must achieve all external units at pass grade or above.
90% of all BTEC Business students go on to study a degree course, approximately half of which are business related with a particular focus on either accounting, finance, information technology or business management.
You will be qualified to extend beyond a business related degree course to other degrees including drama, music, sports, surveying and journalism. 10% of students go onto workplace apprenticeship schemes and these have been in the field of customer services and business administration.
- For students who want to make a career in business and who have a real desire to learn and develop the ability to solve the challenges that any type of business presents, the BTEC course provides an excellent foundation to move onto a wide variety of university courses or workplace apprenticeships.
- Many students apply for university degree courses choosing to study Business and Marketing. Business and Finance or International Business studies. Students can also progress to an apprenticeship. Alternatively students enter employment in such areas as business management, marketing, finance and business law.
