Course description

 

Studying Physics you will understand how the world around you operates and how laws govern our entire universe.

Course content

AS (7407)

Topic 1: Measurements and their errors

Topic 2: Particles and radiation

Topic 3: Waves

Topic 4: Mechanics and Materials

Topic 5: Electricity

 

A2 (7408)

Topic 6: Further mechanics and thermal physics

Topic 7: Fields and their consequences

Topic 8: Nuclear Physics

One Optional Topic from following:

- Astrophysics

- Medical Physics

- Engineering Physics

-Turning points in physics

- Electronics

 

Students are encouraged to attend external lectures and revision conferences.

Entry requirements

- GCSE Physics (triple science) minimum grade B

- GCSE Science Core minimum grade A and GCSE Additional Science minimum grade B

In addition to one of the options above; GCSE Mathematics (minimum grade A) is also required.

Students must pass an entrance exam before commencement of the course.

AQA - 7407 (AS) and 7408 (A2)

 

AS (7407)

Paper 1 - 50% (1hr 30 min exam)

 

Paper 2 - 50% (1hr 30 min exam)

 

 

A2 (7408)

Paper 1 - 34% (2hr exam)

Paper 2 - 34% (2hr exam)

Paper 3 - 32% (2hr exam)

Practical Endorsement - Assessed throughout year, pass or fail mark recorded.

Future opportunities

A Physics qualification can lead to any technological or engineering based career such as robotics, mechanical/civil engineering, medical physics and nanotechnology.
