Skills for Work & Independence Pathway Entry 2 Certificate or Diploma at Brooklands College

Course description

The aim of this programme is to offer students a range of vocational choices and support them in improving their English, Maths and ICT skills. In addition to this students are encouraged to develop confidence in personal and social skills, communication and teamwork.

Qualification Aims
Certificate or Diploma in Skills for Work and Independence. Functional Maths, English and ICT at the appropriate level.

Course content

Vocational areas may include Catering, Childcare, Horticulture, Hairdressing, Media, Retail, Sport, or Motor Vehicle Studies.

Other skills development includes:
• Team Building
• Communication skills
• Health and Safety
• Maths, English, ICT
• Employability skills

Entry requirements

This course is designed for those with no formal qualifications. A satisfactory school / college report and a Learning Disability Assessment or ECHP written by a Pathways adviser is desirable.

Suitability for the course is to be determined at interview.  Students who have not attended the college before should consider transition planning with the college, to include taster sessions and attendance at Summer School.

Financial information

Students taking Catering should wear ‘whites’, students doing MVS need boots and overalls. Students are expected to bring folders, pens and writing paper to all lessons. 

Future opportunities

Students may wish to progress on to the Moving On Pathway, the LEAP pathway, or into employment.
