Sports Coaching NCFE Level 3 at Lancaster and Morecambe College

Course description

This course is a one year full time course geared towards a career in the sports and leisure industry or for progression on to a higher level programme of study such as a Higher National Diploma.

The Sports Coaching pathway will prepare students for a variety of roles in the Sport and Active Leisure Industry by developing personal skills and qualities needed for a career in the sector, including leadership skills, communication skills and working effectively in a team, personal and group standards and acceptable behaviour for the leisure industry.

Students will be involved in practical sport, sports coaching and physical fitness classes in which they will develop their practical knowledge and skills as a performer and coach as well as their own personal fitness and training understanding. 

Course content

You will study the following: 2 Mandatory units: • Exercise, Health and Lifestyle • Sports Coaching

7 Optional units from: • Practical Team Sports • Practical Individual Sports • Principles of Anatomy and Physiology in Sport • The Physiology of Fitness • Assessing Risk in Sport • Fitness Training and Programming • Fitness Testing for Sport and Exercise • Sports Nutrition • Psychology for Sports Performance • Technical and Tactical Skills in Sport • The Athlete’s Lifestyle • Current Issues in Sport • Instructing Physical Activity and Exercise • Sports Injuries • Sports Development • Leadership in Sport • Analysis of Sports Performance • Ethics and Values in Sport • Business in Sport • Sport and Exercise Massage • Organising Sports Events • Work Experience in Sport • Applied Strength and Conditioning 

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs grade A*-C including English and maths or a related Level 2 qualification at merit You will also need enthusiasm for the subject/area, evidence of good skills in practical subjects, enjoy working with people, commitment to study, proven interest in sports and good interpersonal skills. 

Assessment

This course is continuously assessed using a range of methods including projects, assignments, coursework, practical performance and portfolio presentation

£95 for a starter pack, equipment, transport for visits, Great Tower residential and Sports t-shirt.
