BTEC Sport (Subsidiary Diploma and the Diploma) at Millbrook Academy

Course description

 

This is a two year full-time course providing a specialist, work-related programme of study in sport. It covers the key knowledge and practical skills required for those who have already decided the specialist area they wish to study.

 

If you not only enjoy taking part in sport but also have a real interest in the aspects surrounding and supporting performance then this course is for you. It will give you the opportunity to develop your knowledge and investigate a wide range of aspects; from the scientific to the sociological, from the psychological to the nutritional.

 

It has been set up for those students who have a real interest in the theoretical and practical aspects of sports performance and excellence.

 

You will be taught by specialist teachers in classrooms, sports hall, astro-turf, fitness suite and playing fields.

 

There are no exams on this course and it comprises of 100% coursework. Assignments will be based on realistic workplace situations.

Entry requirements

 

Achieved at least a grade C in Maths and/or English. Students who have studies a Level 2 Diploma/Certificate should have achieved at least a merit grade(s).

A GCSE grade C or better in Biology/Science and PE would be a distinct advantage

Progression

 

 

 

 Students must complete and pass the first year to be awarded a BTEC Certificate and progress to the BTEC Subsidiary Diploma.

Students on the BTEC Diploma in Sport can progress on the BTEC Extended Diploma in Sport during year 13. Beyond the 6th form they can also progress to a Higher Education course in Sports Studies, Leisure/Recreation Management, Sports Coaching/Development or specific vocational training in fitness. Another option available is in employment within the leisure industry.
