GCE Mathematics (OCR) at Queen Elizabeth's Academy
Students choose mathematics for many reasons, apart from a pure love of the subject; many combine Mathematics with Science and Business Courses, whilst others choose it to compliment arts and/or humanities subjects.
Course Content for A -Level
C1: including Quadratics, Co-ordinate Geometry and an introduction to Differentiation
C2: including Series, some Further Trigonometry and an introduction to Integration
C3: including exponential growth and Decay and some Further Calculus
C4: including First order differential equations, Vectors and Parametric equations
M1: including Forces, Newton’s Law of Motion and Linear Momentum
Those doing AS Level will take three modules only: C1, C2 and M1 or D1
All units are assessed by external written examinations. Modules are taken in June.
These include challenging traditional methods and relevant investigational methods. Student will be required to work both independently and with their peers. There is no coursework element but regularly homework will be set. Where possible the course will be linked to real life opportunities, and students will be encouraged to attend a number of the out of Academy careers events and revision days directly aimed at mathematics students.
A university course or employment in the Science, Computing or Business world would benefit from a qualification in A Level Mathematics, and a good grade in A Level Mathematics is highly regarded when applying to university.
