Law A level at St Dominic's Sixth Form College

Course description

The Humanities Department delivers AS and A2 courses in Law. The success rate is outstanding and every year a considerable number of students go on to study related degree courses.  The subject is increasing in popularity both at A level and undergraduate level. 

Course content

A level Law (AQA linear)

  • AS Unit 1:   Law Making and the Legal System
  • AS Unit 2:   The Concept of Liability
  • A2 Unit 3:   Criminal Law (Offences against the Person)
  • A2 Unit 4:   Criminal Law (Offences against Property) and Concepts of Law

Entry requirements

7 GCSEs at C or above, including Englsh Language

Future opportunities

Courses in Humanities are extremely well-respected and act as a springboard to higher education for a wide range of courses such as Media and Journalism, International Relations, Development Studies, Law and Teaching. They also compliment Medicine and Dentistry, demonstrating strong analytical and communication skills.

Many students from St Dominic’s have gone on to study Humanities subjects at Oxford or Cambridge University.

Further information

The Department offers a wide range of enrichment activities to students. These include outings to Parliament, the Supreme Court and local exhibits.  The Humanities department also contributes heavily to the college’s debating society and provides support for those students hoping to read Law (LNAT preparation) or study at Oxbridge.
