BTEC Dance Level 3 at Blyth Academy

Course description

The qualification lays a suitable foundation to enter Degree or HND courses or directly into employment. ICT can, along with your other A Levels, be an avenue to a diverse range of courses. Past students have gone on to University to study Computer Science, Accountancy, Law, Education, Sports and Leisure Culture, English, Medicine and ICT. If University is not your chosen pathway, ICT is a skill recognised and desired by potential employers and as such puts you in a very marketable position.

Course content

You will study:

 Contemporary Dance Technique

 Jazz Dance Technique

 Choreographic Principals

 Dance Appreciation

 Performance Skills

Entry requirements

Students are required to achieve a C grade in GCSE Dance or a Pass in BTEC Dance.

Students who have not taken a Dance qualification in Year 11 are welcome to apply but must have significant Dance experience.


You will be assessed on a continual basis using workshop based assignments designed to develop and build your practical skills in both rehearsal and performance. You will be expected to keep a log of your progress to demonstrate your understanding of the practical work.

You will be given an assignment brief at the start of each project and the assessment criteria will be clearly outlined to show you how to achieve your best. You will be assessed through the performances that you take part in such as the Christmas Dance Showcase, Local Dance Festival and Summer Dance Showcase. You will also have the opportunity to learn about leading dance for younger students taking part in our annual Blyth Primary Schools Tour.

Future opportunities

Past students have gone onto:

 Study Dance or Performing Arts at University or at a Further Education College.

 Open their own Dance School.

 Work as a Dancer at Flamingo Land Theme Park.

 Dance in the Community facilitator at Blyth Valley Arts and Leisure.

 Professional Dance Training such as Rambert Dance and The London School for Contemporary Dance.
