Continuing with Art and Design will enable you to develop your creative ability. Choosing the Art and Design route allows you to experience a variety of specialisms and does not restrict your future choices. The course allows you to study in a variety of mediums including Fine Art, Graphics, Sculpture, CAD, Textiles and Mixed Media. You will be given the opportunity to develop your skills, experience new techniques, be inspired by the work of others and be influenced to create your own imaginative artwork.
Component 1: Personal investigation 60% This is a practical investigation supported by written material. Students are required to conduct a practical investigation, into an idea, issue, concept or theme, supported by written material. The focus of the investigation must be identified independently by you and must lead to a finished outcome or a series of related finished outcomes.
Component 2: Externally set assignment 40% This is an externally set assignment, to include preparatory research completed in lessons and a final piece completed in fifteen hours controlled conditions.
This is a highly practical course where all your work counts. Ideally you should have achieved at least a C grade at GCSE Art & Design and have a keen enthusiasm for the subject. This is a challenging course so you must be self-motivated and resourceful.
This qualification is essential for a future in the Art world including Illustration, Media, Set Design, Fashion Design, Interior Design, Hairdressing, Film and Television.
