History at The New Sixth Bath
The course looks at a broad spectrum of historical topics. This includes investigating regime change in 15th century England and the successful consolidation of Tudor power; exploring the Vietnam War and its consequences for America; exploring the extraordinary reign of Elizabeth I in England and her triumph against all odds and an independent enquiry into the development of modern America from the principles of the Declaration of Independence.
Unit 1: Change and consolidation. Britain, 1483-1529.
Unit 2: Historical Issues Periods of change. The USA and Vietnam.
Unit 3: The State and the People. The Triumph of Elizabeth.
Unit 4: Historical Enquiry. An individual study of approximately 3500 words.
It is preferable that students should have a B grade or higher in History and/or English at GCSE. Inexceptional circumstances other candidates may be considered. Students should have an interest in people, their actions and responses to events. Students will need to analyse problems, debate issues, constructarguments and read widely around the subject.
