Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Level 1 Diploma at East Surrey College

Course description

This qualification offers students an introduction to motor vehicle maintenance theory and practice. It is designed to prepare you for a career in the motor vehicle maintenance and repair industry. You will learn the basics of all the major motor vehicle systems such as brakes, engines, suspension, transmission and electrics through a series of practical learning tasks and the associated theory.

Entry requirements

Students must have four GCSEs grade A* - E, including Maths and English, or progression from Vehicle Technology Entry Level 3. All applicants must have a satisfactory academic reference.

Assessment

The coursework is assessed by keeping a portfolio of assessed practical work and by completing phase tests and two online tests.

Financial information

If you are under 19 on 31/08/2016, tuition is free. If you are 19 or over please consult Client Services for advice and guidance on funding and eligibility. Please be aware that there may be additional costs for equipment and educational visits. This information will be available from the curriculum staff at interview.
 

Future opportunities

This course provides a progression route for entry into a Level 2 course, full-time employment or it can provide routes into motor vehicle apprenticeship schemes.

Equipment needed:
 
Pens, pencils and calculator, A4 folder with paper and dividers and recommended text books. For all workshop activities you will need to have your own steel toe capped boots and 1 piece overalls.
