Course description

The BTEC First Certificate or extended certificate is a course suitable for all who are interested in, or considering a career involved in Health, Children’s or Social Care Services.

Course content

Some of the units covered include:

  • Equality,diversity andrights 
  • Development throughthe life stages 
  • Creative andtherapeutic therapies 
  • Nutrition in health and social care 

Entry requirements

Level 2 requires 5 A-G or equivalent


You will develop your knowledge through practical activities, visits & work experiences and written assignments.

Each unit is assessed on a ‘Pass Merit’ or ‘Distinction’ scale, and the qualification is worth the equivalent of one to two GCSEs at grades A*-C, depending on whether you follow the Certificate or Extended Certificate course. Gaining two distinctions is the equivalent to two Grade A GCSEs. Your work will be supported by a one week work experience which you will be helped to organise.
