Urdu A Level

 

 

 

Course content

A range of practical skills to enable you to understand and communicate in written and spoken language. You will also develop an understanding and awareness of the cultural, social, economic, commercial and political background of countries where the language is spoken.

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs at grade C or above, preferably with at least grade B in Urdu.

Assessment

After one year for AS level and then after a second year at A2 Level:

By an oral paper and written papers in reading, writing and listening skills where, as far as possible, only the target language is used to assess the quality of communication, accuracy and content.

Visits to the Target Language Country could also be part of your learning.

Future opportunities

Your training to be a better communicator will make you a valuable asset in all sorts of careers which are not necessarily or obviously connected with using foreign languages. You might choose to capitalise on your skills and look for employment after your A levels or you might choose to follow a degree course. An A Level modern language is accepted as a qualifying subject for a wide range of degree courses.

A modern languages degree can lead to a successful career in such professions as: translator/interpreter, teaching, business executive.

Employers will often be willing to pay 20% more for your language skills.
