English Language A Level at JOSEPH LECKIE ACADEMY

Course description

The qualification is linear & introduces students to methods of language analysis, exploring concepts of audience, purpose, genre, mode & representation.

Entry requirements

Minimum of 5 A* -C grades / grade 5 (new grading structure) at GCSE or equivalent with English & Maths.  Grade B or equivalent in your chosen study subject is preferred.


3 x units of study:

Unit 1 - Language, the Individual & Society - written exam 2.5 hrs - 40% weighting

Unit 2 - Language, Diversity & Change - written exam 2.5 hrs - 40% weighting

Unit 3 - non-exam assessment focuses on Language in Action - students produce a language investigation (2,000 words excluding data) - piece of original writing & commentary (1500 words) - assessed by teachers & moderated by AQA.

Final unit 20% weighting
