Hairdressing VTCT Level 2 NVQ Diploma at Grantham College
The VTCT Level 2 Diploma in Women’s Hairdressing is aimed at 16-18 year old and 19+ learners in full – time education who wish to pursue a career as a hairdresser /stylist.
If you are aged under 19 and if you do not hold a GCSE grade C or higher in English and Maths, it is compulsory for you to work towards these qualifications whilst studying for your hairdressing qualification.
This qualification is based on the national occupational standards for hairdressing and includes all the required elements to work effectively as a hairdresser / stylist. Learners must achieve all mandatory units which include:
- Health and safety in the salon
- Working in the hair industry
- Client consultation
- Shampoo and condition
- Cut women’s hair
- Colour and lighten hair
- The art of dressing hair
In addition to completing the mandatory units, learners are required to complete four optional units which could include:
- Promote a product or service
- Display stock to promote sales in a salon
- Salon reception duties
- Perm and neutralise hair
2 GCSE’s Grade D or above including English or equivalent and a sound knowledge of written and spoken English. Hold a Level 1 Hairdressing qualification.
Seven on–line multiple choice examinations, externally set and externally marked. Practical continual assessments externally set and internally marked. Subject related oral questions. 2 assignments internally marked. Portfolio of evidence internally set and internally marked.
Full Time Further Education courses are free for those who are under 19 on 31 August of the year they start their course. Exam resit fees may apply if and when applicable.
This course focuses on the development of the principles and practical skills in the hairdressing industry. It is designed to deliver occupational capability and provide a sound platform from which to prepare for employment as a stylist within the hairdressing industry.
Whilst the primary purpose of this qualification is to prepare learners for employment, learners may choose to develop their knowledge and skills further by progressing onto the VTCT Level 3 Technical Level or the Extended Diploma in Hairdressing or level 2 Certificate in barbering.
