Physical Education A Level at The Rochester Grammar School

Course description

We have a long tradition of sporting excellence here at RGS.  The A Level syllabus being followed is set by the AQA examination board.

The specification in Physical Education is designed to develop students’ knowledge and understanding of how different factors combine together in varying ways, to influence the quality of per formance in a variety of physical activities and how performance can be improved through practice and by analysis and evaluation. Whilst it is not necessary for students to have studied GCSE Physical Education it is expected that high standards in the sciences will have been achieved and that students are competent performers in the sports arena. However, applicants who are enthusiastic about all aspects of Sport and Physical Education and who demonstrate a great deal of commitment to the subject will be considered for acceptance on the course. The subject is exciting, enjoyable and full of vitality but it demands a serious approach to the study of sport and all related topics.

Advanced level Physical Education encourages students to take a broad view in developing their capacity for critical thinking and appreciates the relationship between anatomy, physiology, biomechanics and Sociology. Students will improve their knowledge and skills in selected physical activities and their personal performance and practical experiences will underpin a great deal of their learning and application.
