AS Level : Physical Education at English Martyrs Catholic School
The BTec Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Sport is a qualification that is directly equivalent to one full A Level. The course supports government strategy in building successful sporting expertise which can contribute to the national status and profile of UK sport in Europe and the rest of the world.
The course is studied over two years and is supported by other A Levels.
Students study a total of 7 units over the two year course.

- Anotomy and physiology
- Fitness testing and training
- Current issues in sport
- Sports coaching
- Psychology for sports performance
A minimum of a Merit grade in BTEC Sport (or equivalent)
Assessment is coursework based, with a vocational context. Students are continually assessed throughout the two year course. Examples of assessment include written essays, presentations and role play. There are no examinations.
Exam Board: Edexcel
You could take this course to complement other advanced level courses such as Science or to prepare for the A2 part of an Advanced GCE in Physical Education, which could lead onto higher education in areas of Sport Studies, Recreation, Exercise and Science or more general higher education courses. With further training you could go into a job related to Physical Education such as a Physiotherapist, Teacher or Exercise and Fitness Trainer. You could also go straight into a job as the AS GCE is a recognised qualification that will help you develop the skills, understanding and knowledge that many employers across lots of industries are looking for, especially in the Sporting and Health Sectors.
