Media Studies A Level at The Rochester Grammar School

Course description

This course is designed for those with a passion for the media which surrounds them.  Students will have an enthusiasm to find out more about the production and reception of a range of media texts (including print, new media, radio, TV and film), as well as the institutions which create these texts and the issues which surround them.

Course content

There are two units as well as coursework. 

Entry requirements

A GCSE grade 6 in English Literature is required and evidence of a real interest in the Media is essential. 

Students should have an active interest in studying a wide variety of media texts and should be keen to use new technology in order to produce their own media texts.  Students will also require strong independent study skills and an enthusiasm for research.

In order to gain access to The RGS Sixth Form, students must obtain 5 GCSE grades at A*-B (5+) including English Language and Mathematics.

Future opportunities

A qualification in Media Studies provides a useful stepping stone to undergraduate studies in a wide range of media-based subjects.  It is also, most crucially, a subject which rewards an inquiring mind and which helps students to develop their analytical skills and research skills.
