Course description

If you’ve enjoyed and achieved a good grade at GCSE German, then an A Level will give you greater confidence, fluency and command of the language. You will be equipped with a valuable skill which many others do not possess. A Level German is an excellent part of any subject combination in the 6th form. As it is an academic subject which develops strong intellectual abilities, it is also highly-regarded by, and can open doors to top universities. German A Level students have gone on to study languages at university as well as a wide variety of degree courses such as medicine, law, international business, leisure and tourism, economics and accountancy.

A Level teaching builds on skills and knowledge acquired at GCSE. You will gain a deeper understanding of the structure of the language, grammatical rules and their application, as well as an extensive knowledge of relevant topic vocabulary. Topics at AS are: modern German culture, health and well-being, media, and relationships. Topics at A2 are: the environment and social issues as well as the in-depth study of 2 cultural topics.

Entry requirements

GCSE grade A* - B in German & grade A* - C in English / English Literature.
