Team Leading Combined Intermediate Apprenticeship at Derby College

Course description

For those leading teams in a retail environment, this course is a stepping stone to enhance your management and supervisory skills. Students on this course learn not only how to manage their own workload efficiently but also how to lead and support others, team leadership techniques, communication techniques, set goals and develop strong decision-making and problem-solving skills.

Entry requirements

You will be required to undertake an initial assessment before enrolling on the course. You will need to be working be in a supervisory or management role that allows you to plan, allocate and manage a team.


You will be assessed in the work place by an assessor who is assigned to you. A variety of assessment styles will be used including written questions, work books, observations and professional discussion, work products and witness testimony. In addition you will receive individual advice, support and guidance from your assigned assessor who will carry out a review of your progress with you every 12 weeks.

Future opportunities

Further Study
Having gained experience and skills on the course, students may be given more responsibility in their job roles at work. They may also like to consider progressing to a Level 3 qualification or an Advanced Apprenticeship in Retail Management. Derby College staff are happy to advise.

The invaluable skills gained on this apprenticeship are transferable and relevant to any business. They prepare the student for a range of key roles with autonomy and responsibility and pave the way for them to reach the next level of management. Learners may also progress into roles such as Section Manager, Senior Supervisor or Assistant Manager.
