Course description

The course is split into 4 units, 2 at AS and 2 at A2.

Unit 1 (MS1): Media Representations and Responses

  • Written exam - 2 hours 30 minutes
  • Worth 50% of AS mark
  • Three compulsory questions


Unit 2 (MS2): Media Production Processes

  • Coursework unit
  • Three components:
  • Pre-production
  • Production that develops from the pre-production
  • Report on the production process
  • Worth 50% of the AS mark

Unit 3 (MS3): Media Investigation and Production

  • Coursework unit
  • Three components
  • A written investigation into media texts
  • A media production
  • An evaluation of how the production and research are matched
  • Worth 25% of A level


Unit 4 (MS4): Text, Industry and Audience

  • Written exam
  • Three questions from 2 sections about products, producers and audiences
  • Must write on three different media industries
  • Worth 25% of the A level

Assessment

  • Unit 1 written exam – unseen texts (externally assessed)
  • Unit 2 practical and written coursework (internally assessed and externally moderated)
  • Unit 3 practical and written coursework (internally assessed and externally moderated)
  • Unit 4 written exam – nine prepared texts from Film, TV drama and newspapers (externally assessed)
