Children's Care Learning & Development - BTEC Level 2 at Pool Hayes Arts and Community School

Course description

Brief Course Content

There are five core units plus the choice of one specialist unit totalling 360 guided learning hours.  The stucture of the course allows you to develop your interests and gain a broad foundation and introduces you to new areas, such as providing support for children with disabilities or special educational needs, supporting children's play and learning or understanding children's development. 

Students with study Children's Care and ICT but may opt to retake GCSE English and/or Maths.  All students will follow the core curriculum including General Studies. 

Students choosing a Vocational Course will be encouraged to use their own initiative, plan and organise their own work, and to work as a member of a team.  Work placements are a required element.  All vocational students will be expected to study for at least 5-10 hours per week ouside lessons. 


The qualification will give you the knowledge, understanding and competency needed when considering entering emplyment in the Children's Care Sector.  You will gain the essential skills and knowledge crucial to this area of study, giving you the opportunity to build on these afterwards by progressing to a qualification at Level 3, or to enter into your first job within this sector. 

You will undertake 300 hours of valuable work experience as part of this course.

Entry requirements

Four GCSE's at Grades D-G, level one or equivalent qualifications.  These should include a good standard of literacy and numeracy.

Vocational courses are open to students who can satisfy the school that they will be able to benefit from continued study for a period of one year.  to follow a Level 2 course, students should have gained GCSE English and/or Maths results in the region of C-E.
