BTEC First Diploma in Art and Design at St Chads Catholic and Church of England High School
The 6 units to be covered are: 2D and 3D visual language. Materials, techniques and technology. Exploring others work. Working to a brief. Fine artwork. Craft work. Evidence for the coverage of the themes should be stored or filed by the student. You will work in 4 specialist areas: Ceramics, Textiles, Drawing/Painting and Printing. Visits to galleries will be integrated into the course.
You should have a keen interest in Art and Design but not have necessarily completed the GCSE examination (although this would be an advantage). You should also be organised and be able to use/develop your initiative to carry out research on your own.
Each unit will be assessed by the teacher/assessor. You will be graded at levels: Pass, Merit, Distinction according to the level of work you produce. External assessments take place in 2 of the units: 2D and 3D visual language Working to a brief End of unit tests are set by the Examination Board, each lasting one hour. These tests can be re-taken within the same year of failing.
AS or A2 entry. Careers in the Art and Design related industries. Foundation college courses for pre-degree work.
