Chemistry at The Elizabethan Academy

Course description

Course Content Aimed at encouraging students to develop their interest in, and enthusiasm for, chemistry including developing an interest in further study and careers in chemistry. 3 Units at 'AS' level, including:

F321 - Atoms, Bonds and Groups: 1 hour written exam which accounts for 30% of the AS mark.
F322 - Chains, Energy and Resources: 1.75 hour written exam (usually June) which accounts for 50% of the AS mark.
F323 - Practical Skills In Chemistry 1: (Coursework component completed throughout the year). This unit accounts for 20% of the AS mark and is assessed via three skills tasks which are set by the examination board. 3 Units at 'A2' level, including:
F324 - Rings, Polymers and Analysis: This unit accounts for 15% of the A2 mark, and is assessed by means of a written examination paper.
F325 - Equilibria, Energetics and Elements: This unit accounts for 25% of the A2 mark, and is assessed by means of a written examination paper.
F326 - Practical Skills in Chemistry 2 (Coursework component completed throughout the year): This unit accounts for 10% of the A2 mark and is assessed via three skills tasks.

Entry requirements

You will need at least 5 GCSEs at A* - C (including GCSE Mathematics and/or GCSE English Language). 'AS': At least grade BB in GCSE Science, preferably Grade B in Chemistry and Grade B in Physics or Biology A2': At least grade D in 'AS' but Grade D highly recommended.
