Plumbing Studies Intermediate Diploma at Derby College

Course description

This programme provides you with the opportunity to gain knowledge and skills for the plumbing trade.  Featuring in-depth theory and specialist practical learning, it is designed for learners who are independent, committed and wish to advance in the industry. 

The qualification covers many areas within plumbing and domestic heating, such as hot and cold water supplies, sanitation and understanding health and safety within building services engineering.

As well as plumbing know-how, learners will develop their skills in maths and English, which will support their main programme of study, help their future progression and enhance their life skills.

You will study:

  • Health and Safety
  • Electrical Principles
  • Common Plumbing Processes
  • Scientific Principles
  • Cold Water Systems
  • Domestic Hot Water Systems
  • Sanitation Systems
  • Central Heating Systems (pipework only)
  • Drainage Systems
  • Understand how to communicate with others in Building Services
  • Functional Maths and English

Entry requirements

You will undertake an interview and aptitude test.  You also need evidence of Level 2 qualifications such as GCSE grades at A-C Higher or a BTEC Level 2 in Construction.

Assessment

Candidates will be assessed via on-demand multiple choice tests - available through the City & Guilds e-assessment platform, e-volve - and via practical assignments.

Maths and English will be assessed through a controlled assessment or final exam.

Future opportunities

You can progress to a Level 3 programme or the National Diploma in Construction or Civil Engineering.  If pursuing further studies, you will continue to develop your skills in maths and English.
