This subject is about Designing and Making Commercial Products. This includes the Product, the Packaging and Advertising. The making part is achieved by choosing appropriate materials of your choice - there is no set range.
In year 10 we study the theory of materials, constructional techniques, Health and Safety and the need for quality design. Theory knowledge is taught but most is gained from practical work.
Towards the middle of year 10 you will start preparing a Major Project.
This project is worth 60% of your final GCSE mark- so it is important to do well in it. We allow a free choice of project but will guide you into making a good choice for the exam. Feedback is given to all pupils on their progress and attainment to help gain high marks. The Major Project should finish during the Spring Term of year 11.
In March the exam board issue the theme topic for the exam. Preparation for the exam is important and the final few weeks are spent in researching and preparing good examination technique.
