Maintenance Operations Diploma Level 2 at New College Stamford

Course description

You will gain the skills, knowledge and understanding necessary to enter a range of construction industries including:BricklayingPainting and DecoratingTilingPlasteringPlumbingCarpentry and Joinery.This course is designed to develop a range of practical skills which you can take in to industry or further study in your chosen path.Your training will take place in our brand new £3.5 million Construction Centre, which has been specifically built to replicate the real working world and ensure you gain the knowledge you need for a successful career within the industry.You will have the opportunity to meet guest speakers from the industry to develop your knowledge of different career opportunities within the trade. Meeting guest speakers will provide you with advice from experts in the field to give you insight in to the latest construction methods used by various industries.This course is approximately 30% theory and 70% practical.

Course content

You will have opportunities to learn both in the classroom, with theory based discussion’s, multimedia presentations and worksheets and hands on practical tasks to develop your skills over the wide range of trades in our modern, well equipped workshops.All materials used to support you in your studies are also made available via the internet.

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs at grades D or above, including English and maths at grades D/3 or above, or a relevant Level 1 qualification. You will also need a Level 1 or equivalent in English and maths.

Assessment

All units have practical assessments and a multiple choice core test. The final assignment is a practical synoptic test in the workshop.

Future opportunities

On successful completion n of this course you could progress on to a Bricklaying, Carpentry, Electrical, or Plumbing Diploma Level 3, or an Electrotechnical Engineering, Trowel or Wood Occupations Apprenticeship. Or enter employment.

Further information

You will require a uniform consisting of steel toe capped boots and overalls which can be purchased from our website. During your interview you will also sit an online suitability assessment. The result of this, plus your previous academic achievements and maturity will determine the level of course you are offered.
