Journalism Advanced at FutureSkills @ MediaCity UK - Salford City College

Course description

Journalism students will benefit from studying at our state of the art facilities in the heart of MediaCityUk. You will develop a wide range of skills required for multimedia journalism in a digital age, enabling you to pursue media careers. You will have extensive opportunities to produce work for live industry briefs and work alongside our media partners at BBC North, The Sun, The News Academy and Key 103. The Journalism Department boasts industry experienced teachers who have worked across a variety of media and journalism producers

Course content

You wil study a variety of topics such as:

  • Interview techniques
  • Radio speech package production
  • Writing copy for magazines
  • Magazine design
  • Factual writing for newspapers
  • Documentary making
  • News production techniques
  • Presenting skills
  • Photography

You will also study employability skills

Entry requirements

5 Cs/4s at GCSE

Assessment

You will be assessed continually throughout your course through through practical journalism projects and written assignments. You will also be expected to present and pitch work to industry professionals and your teachers. 

Financial information

Full time courses are free to 16-18 year olds who are EU citizens

Future opportunities

Students can gain employment in the journalism industry at a trainee/Apprenticeship level or go on to study a journalism-related course at university
