Agriculture Level 3 (Conv Sub Dip) 90 Credit Diploma at Northumberland College
The course is for someone who works or wants to work within the Agricultural Industry. This level is ideal if you have some experience in agriculture or have gained your Level 2 qualification. You want to develop the skills to be a more senior farm worker or manager, or to prepare for higher-level training.
The qualification includes a large number of units covering a range of topics. The units that everyone is required to take are: Anatomy & Physiology Plant and Soil Science There are optional units which allow you to pick areas of interest. Examples include: Agricultural Crop Production Agricultural Livestock Production Land-based Machinery Estate Skills Organic Production Farm Habitat Management Specialist Workshop Practices Dairy/Beef/Pig/Poultry Production Grassland Management Nutrition and Breeding Genetics For all units you will study both practical and theory based methods. You will also work on the college farms gaining work experience from a commercial farm.
You will need to have four GCSEs including, Maths and or English and preferably two sciences and one other all at grade C or above, or a level 2 qualification in an related subject. The recommended entry requirements are the level 2 Certificate, Extended Certificate or Diploma in a Landbased subject.
Your progress will be assessed by a range of methods including written assignments, practical assessments/ observations, presentations, group work and identification tests.
The qualification allows you to progress into employment. You might progress into the following roles: Farmer Assistant Farm Manager (Livestock) Assistant Farm Manager (Crops) Stockperson Herdsman Farm Secretary Livestock Technician You can go on to study subjects such as: Agriculture Foundation Degree BSc (Hons) Agriculture This qualification carries 60 to 210 UCAS points (depending on the grade achieved).
