Health and Social Care at Retford Oaks Academy

Course description

The aim of the course is to develop and sustain an interest in: Health, early years education, social care, issues around the health and social care sector and developing skills in effective communication. The new specification also includes the work of the community justice sector.

2 Units at 'AS' level, including:

HSC01 - Effective caring and communication. This unit introduces you to the communication skills used in health, social care, children and young people and community justice sectors. It also introduces some of the factors which are required for a good quality of life and some of the skills and techniques practitioners can use in order to treat people well.

HSC02 - Understanding Health Conditions. This unit aims to develop your knowledge and understanding of a range of health conditions, and the appropriate patient care pathways.

2 Units at 'A2' level, including:

HSC06 - Practitioner Roles. This unit develops an understanding of the Health and Social Care sector as an employee, including research into different job roles. Plus one exam unit.

HSC05 - Learning and Development. This unit aims to develop your understanding of the influences that can affect learning and development, as well as key theories which attempt to explain behaviour.

Or HSC07 - Food and Fitness. This unit aims to develop your knowledge and understanding of food components and balanced diets required to meet the dietary and nutritional needs of different client groups and a range of different aspects of exercise which help maintain the fitness, health and well-being of individuals

Entry requirements

AS': 5 GCSEs C grade or above A2': At least grade D in 'AS' Health and Social Care
