Children's Play, Learning and Development BTEC level 3 National Award at Frome Community College
The following units are studies in this qualification:
Play and learning
Health and safety in early years settings
Supporting children’s personal, social and emotional development
Safeguarding in early years
Observation, assessment and planning.
These units will be taught over the two years of the qualification. This BTEC qualification will be assessed through one written exam for Unit 1 (child development). The exam will take place in June of Year 12. You will also be expected to complete written assignments that will be set for each of the remaining units.
Work experience is a key part of the BTEC National Award in Children’s Play, Learning and Development. It is expected that students complete a minimum of 50 hours over the two years of the course. We have extensive links with local employers who offer our students a wide range of work placement opportunities. Students can therefore undertake placement in the following areas; pre-schools, nurseries, first and primary schools, centres for children with additional needs.
By the end of the course you will have experienced a variety of settings, for which the placements will have been organised to suit your needs. This practical experience is an important part of the course as both employers and universities recognise its value.
5 GCSE grades A* - C including English and/or maths
